How to register for SFK (Summer for Kids) camps:

SAMFA MEMBERS: To register your child for camps, if you are a SAMFA member please email Scott Sustek at [email protected] with names and ages of campers and camps you would like them to attend.
If not a member, you must come to the Education Studio Breezeway on Friday April 25 and choose a large donor tile to stand on or “claim”. Any parent or guardian may come and represent their campers. No need to line up, just choose a tile as your spot. There are 24 tiles for up to 24 spots in camps. Then at the appointed times, Scott or Noelia will randomly choose a tile for registration opportunities.
If chosen, you may register your children/campers, up to 2 spots in up to 2 camps.
1 kid, 1 camp =$150. 3 campers for 1 camp =$450. 4 kids for all 4 camps would be $2400. Siblings are an exception—you may register as many campers as you like if they are siblings.
These are the times for “drawings”: 8:30 am, 9:30 am, 10:30 am, and 11:30 am.
If drawn, you will be asked to pay via Eventbrite and you will receive a paper with registration information as a link to a google form. This will keep us from wasting your time and allow you to inform us of any allergies, etc. that your camper may have. The google form information needs to be completed no later than June 1, 2025. If you are unable to complete the information requested on the google form, we may give your spot to someone on the waiting list and refund your money. Our camps are very popular, and we require payment in advance so we may order T-shirts and supplies for campers and staff.
What is Art of Nature?
The Art of Nature camps were inspired by the need for increased outdoor experiences for our children. “Nature Deficit Disorder” is a phrase coined by author Richard Louv and refers to the fact that children today spend more and more time indoors and therefore have less of a concept of their natural surroundings and the importance of caring for our earth.
Campers spend their days in activities such as creating learnscapes, hiking, hearing about native plants from a local botanist, creating community art from nature, visiting the Farmer’s Market, and creating healthy snacks. Campers are integrated with technology, science, art, and more interdisciplinary studies with specialists from Angelo State University. By not only experiencing our local natural environment but also reflecting on their own role in caring for our planet through visual art projects, these campers are immersed in this valuable intersection of art and science.
